3 G is hot news in Pakistan these days. Many companies got 3 G and 4 G licenses to offer 3G and 4 G services in country. Companies are providing free trail services and after a good response, now companies like Ufone is offering its 3 G services in some cities for its prepaid and postpaid users. But, many people have this question in mind, that in a country where not many cell phones are compatible with 3 G network, what is the scope of 3 G service? Let’s try to find the answer.
Many websites are doing surveys to find the answer of this question. Telecom companies are asking for the feedback of customers and market analysis is also done to find the answer. Initial results of these surveys and analysis say that nearly 8 to 11 percent of cell phone users will avail the 3G service, within 2 to 3 years of its launch. With the passage of time, the number of 3 G users will increase. Moreover, now the service is offered in limited areas, when the coverage will expand, the number of users will automatically increase.
Moreover, if the number of smartphone users increases, the number of 3 G users will also increase.
If we talk about the affordability of the 3 G services, according to an estimate around 17 percent of cell phone users can afford to have 3G service, if price of a package is nearly Rs 1,200 for a month. In a poll, this question was asked from more than 7,000 people and 17% were willing to pay this amount against the 3 G service. Only Ufone has announced the packages and they are around the same amount which these 17% is willing to pay. If a company, announces data plans with in Rs. 1,000 more people will be able to afford this service.
The majority of the internet users will use 3 G service for browsing, social networking and chatting apps. Very few users will go for downloading and other such stuff, so data plans will be affordable for the users. Initially, cellular companies will keep experimenting with the prices but we can say that after a year a so, their package plans will be affordable for a cell phone user.
Now, if we talk about the quality of service, we can say that cellular companies in Pakistan are providing good services to the local residents. The quality of service is much better as compared to many renowned companies operating in other countries. So, the quality of 3 G service is also according to the international standards. However, coverage is still a question mark, but as the service is just started in the country, so we can hope that it will get better with time. Even at this initial stage nine cities in the country are having 3G coverage and that means nearly 20% of the population can access 3 G service.
So, we can safely conclude that 3 G has a bright future in Pakistan and the number of users will increase with the passage of time.
