Nepal telecom offers international roaming facility for its customers, beside other service. This facility is available for postpaid customers right now; prepaid customers cannot use it currently. If you want to use this facility, you have to subscribe for that first. For activation, you have to fill a subscription form and deposit a fee Rs. 30,000/- Once the roaming is activated, you can move easily in 191 countries of the world.
When you are away from Nepal, you can make and receive calls by using your own number. Nepal telecom offers two kinds of roaming facility, one is called outbound roaming, while other is inbound roaming. Some countries have bilateral roaming agreement with the Nepal telecom; it means they offer both inbound and outbound roaming facility for the users of Nepal Telecom.
Outbound roaming: When a customer of Nepal telecom moves to another country for some reason, he can use the network of local companies, who have an agreement with Nepal Telecom. Nepal Telecom have partners in different countries, in many countries there are more than one partners. In this case, you can choose the roaming partner of your choice by selecting it manually form your handset. However, make sure that your handset is compatible with the band which other network offers. Many networks work with GSM 1800 or 1900 band, so check this before you leave Nepal. Nepal Telecom has 33 partners in nearly 20 countries and the number is growing fast, as the aim of the company is to provide good quality services to its customers.
Inbound roaming: Other roaming condition is the inbound roaming. This is for those customers, who visit Nepal and use Nepal telecom network for roaming. Many cellular companies in other countries have inbound roaming agreement with Nepal Telecom. Nepal telecom has GSM 900 network. If we talk about the inbound agreement, Nepal telecom has inbound agreement with 66 mobile operators from 26 different countries.
So customers of Nepal telecom can keep using the services of the company, not only inside the country but in other countries as well. But it’s important to consider things like handset compatibility with networks in other countries.
