Telkom Smart City: 20 Big Cities Are On Hit List

Telkom offers some innovative services for the Indonesian people. The company offers some new technologies as well and Smart City is one of them. Smart city is basically a framework, which is extended as an IT enabler program. The aim of this program is to bring a cultural change in the country and transform the human resources, so that they can be more responsive to the new technology.

The project has started with the city of Makasaar. The information technology system has been optimized on the government systems and that is called the e- government. The aim of this implementation is to create such a working environment, which is not only efficient and effective but transparent too. It will lead to good interaction between government agencies and the citizens of the country. Good governance can be achieved with this program.

The city of Makassar has 1.8 million people and around 40% of people use internet in this city. According to this program, the infrastructure like broadband, Wi-Fi and 3G network will be strengthen in the city. Few services are popular. One of them is the e-office. This service facilitate digital rule in offices as it cut the use of paper.

Another popular service is the integration of health service with this system. This is implemented in 10 health centers and the head office of the city. Patient can register their names for checkup online, before they came to the center. This service will also help to monitor the public health data.

The most popular service is the Makassar Rantasa, which enable the users to submit their complaints against different government agencies. Minor issues like broken street lights and traffic lights can also be registered. Another service is the location based application, which is named as Kuciniki and it will help to monitor the performance of the government staff.

In 2014 the Telkom has planned to implement this Smart city plan in 20 big cities of the country, which will bring a big revolution is Indonesia.
